Russian Roulette Movies
Think of war as a game of Russian roulette. It is a game of chance with your life as the grand prize.

Russian roulette is a deathly hobby, which rarely brings much fun. But it is widely spread among the movie makers. It is thrilling to watch people do really radical things to their lives. There are some movies, I'd say most of them, where the people are playing Russian roulette and the movies are not the comedies.
The Deer Hunter

The movie depicts the Vietnam War. Three friends go to fight. They do not realize how horrible it is. But once they arrive, they clearly see that they are in hell. They find each other in a prison, where the guards make them play Russian roulette.
Steven shoots over the head and he gets punished. He is thrown to an underwater cage, full of dead people and rats. Michael and Nick kill the guards. They later save Steven. But the fate later throws them apart again.
They are damaged by the war. Later they meet in the den, where people play Russian roulette for money. And it is sad, as years later Michael comes to take Nick home but he shoots himself in Russian roulette.
There were over 30 Russian roulette suicides committed after the Deer Hunter movie was released. But it seems that the people, who watched it and later did it, were not mentally strong.
Roulette (2005)
Several people get together to play this deathly thing. All of them have different reason, and all they are a bit weird. A normal person would not play this game. There is a complete and convinced cynic, nerdy teenager, a girl, whose boyfriend dumped her, a womanizer and a macho. And of course one dies. The others realize that they can be accused and try to cover everything, as if it was a suicide.
Roulette is really intricate and psychologically difficult movie, as it reveals what people are. But sometimes you might look for fun, not for thinking mystery. That is why The Good Thief or The Sting might work out.
